With another winter over and spring here to stay, it’s time again for the annual Northern Light/L’Hebdo Chaleur Gigantic Yard Sale.
The eighth annual edition of the charity event happens on June 6 from 8 a.m. til 1 p.m. at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre. All proceeds from this year’s event after costs will be turned over to the Pink Ribbon Foundation, which is raising funds to buy a mammograph machine for Chaleur Regional Hospital, to help with the early detection of breast cancer. Last year, the Northern Light/L’Hebdo Chaleur Gigantic Yard Sale featured more than 100 tables and attracted about 3,000 people, said Maurice Aube, publisher of The Northern Light and L’Hebdo Chaleur. He said that as always, the yard sale presents a great opportunity for non-profit groups to do some fundraising on their own. Mr. Aube noted there’s a very limited number of tables still available, but one can still be reserved by calling office manger Cynthia Good at 546-4491. “The money these groups make off their table is their money,” he said, adding that they only have to pay the rental fee of $15 per table. He said the yard sale is generally a good time for a good cause with a real festive atmosphere.
“It seems like everyone is enjoying themselves, which is what it’s all about &ndash for people to have a little fun while raising money for worthwhile causes.”
