CVS Caremark Charity Classic Going Coed 2009: Theres Going

CVS Caremark Charity Classic going coed

There’s going to be a different look to this year’s CVS Caremark Charity Golf Classic.
It’s going co-ed. Professionals Brad Faxon and Billy Andrade, Rhode Island natives and PGA tour members, who host the tourney, last week said this year’s field will have a twist. Building on its history of featuring women’s teams, the classic will field several mixed-gender teams for the first time in the tournament’s 11-year history. The new coed team format will pair LPGA stars with PGA Tour and Champions Tour players in the tournament, which raises money for hundreds of New England area charities. Pairings are set to include Morgan Pressel with Davis Love III, Julie Inkster with Brad Faxon, Helen Alfredson with Billy Andrade, and Natalie Gulbis with Peter Jacobsen. The CVS Caremark Charity Classic, one of the most popular golfing events in New England, will be held June 21-23 at the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington. The event will draw its full 20-player field from the ranks of the PGA, LPGA and Champions tours. Back to defend their title will be 2008 tournament champions Camilo Villegas and Bubba Watson. Other teams slated to attend include the uncle-nephew duo of Dana Quigley and Brett Quigley, Rhode Island natives, who will be making their 11th straight appearance. “The CVS Caremark Charity Classic brings an unmatched level of professional golf and excitement to Rhode Island, all to support the vital work of our nonprofit partners across the region,” said Eileen Howard Dunn, tournament chairwoman. “We salute the thousands of volunteers from our charity partners who make this tournament a success for fans and their organizations alike.” Tournament week will begin with the Pepsi Pro-Am on Sunday, June 21, followed by the two-day tournament Monday and Tuesday. Participants will be competing for a purse of $1.55 million.
Tickets are available. A three-day pass is $60. Sunday-only tickets are $20 each, and tickets for either Monday or Tuesday are $25 each. Children 12 and under are free with a ticketed adult. Tickets may be obtained by phone at 866-287-9441 or by visiting for a mail-in application.
