MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee’s Danny Gokey made it to the top three on this season of American Idol, but was voted off the show after
that. Danny Gokey was in a pretty crowded Riverside Theater in Milwaukee on Tuesday evening. The concert was not an official “American Idol” event, so Gokey did not sing, but other people did. The Faithbuilders International Choir started the music for the evening, that’s a group of singer’s from Gokey’s church. After that, his friend Jamar, who also auditioned for American Idol, did a few solos. Gokey has been making appearances around Milwaukee the last few days and has said he voted both the top two finalists before the Idol finale so he wouldn’t show favorites. Gokey also said he voted for other contestants earlier in the season. When answering questions from the crowd, Gokey said Paula Abdul was his favorite Idol judge. He also talked about his charity, Sophia’s Heart Foundation, named after his wife who died last year from heart complications.
Gokey told the crowd about what happened after his wife’s last surgery: “From 7:30 in the morning until 11 at night I was in the hospital room and we had to say goodbye right there and I was completely devastated in my life. This is, this is last July, July 9th, 2008 she passed away.”
