Dodge County Fair Kicks Off Aug 19 2009: Beaver Dam

Dodge County Fair kicks off Aug 19

BEAVER DAM — With a little cooperation from Mother Nature and a strong grandstand lineup, Dodge County Fair officials are hoping for record-breaking attendance.
The Fair runs from Wednesday, Aug. 19, through Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Fairgrounds located on Highway 33 just east of Beaver Dam. Area youth will also take their place in the spotlight as they compete for top honors in the 4-H judging and animal shows. More than 750 4-H and FFA members from Dodge County will exhibit more than 5,000 projects this year. Judging in the Youth Building and Farm Progress Arena will take place all day Wednesday through Saturday. The traditional meat animal auction will be held at 7 p.m. in the Farm Progress Arena. That evening, Nashville recording star Rodney Atkins will perform at 8 p.m. The Dodge County Holstein Futurity Show will highlight the country’s top dairy cows. The event begins at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Farm Progress Arena. James Otto, a member of the Nashville MuzikMafia, will perform at 8 p.m. Four-wheel-drive trucks take the track in front of the grandstand at 9 a.m. for the annual truck pull. The Fair will conclude with two heats of the demolition derby at 1 and 6 p.m.
New this year is the Talent Tent, where local talent will provide a variety of musical entertainment for a good cause. Fairgoers will vote for their favorite competitor by contributing $1 (per vote) toward a local charity. This year’s selected recipient is the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization in Dodge County.
