Durham Event A Creative Way To Raise Cash 2009: Seventythree Braved

Durham event a creative way to raise cash

Seventy-three people braved chilly temperatures and waist-deep snow to raise money, collect food and have fun at the 2009 Durham Discs Ice Bowl in
Durham Bridge recently. The annual charity event – which saw players walk, wade and plow their way through an 18-hole course – raised $4,830.86 for the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation and collected 1,223 pounds of food for the Stanley Food Bank. St. Mary’s Supermarket was among those donating to the food bank. The money collected this year came from a combination of Durham Bridge and Fredericton area residents and several generous area companies. This year, John Moir and Eamonn Lynch emerged as Durham Discs champions with their score of 71, good enough to claim top prize. Stephen Bliss and Brian Wortman were second with a score of 78, while Tim O’Hara and Andrew Waugh finished third with 79. Dylan Buell won the closest to the pin prize.
Durham Discs is run by Rod and Pam Seeley.
