Economy Causes Cancellation Of Military Charity Event 2009: Tough Economy

Economy Causes Cancellation Of Military Charity Event

The tough economy is taking its toll on an event designed to help military charities in Eastern Carolina.
The Marine Corps Celebrity Classic slated for June 2009 in Jacksonville has been cancelled. Several charities benefited from the event, like the Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project. The website says this project is “a non-profit organization aimed at assisting those men and women of the United States armed forces who have been severely injured during the war on terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan and other hot spots around the world. Beginning at the bedside of the severely wounded, WWP provides programs and services designated to ease the burdens of these heroes and their families, aid in the recovery process and smooth the transition back to civilian life.” The celebrity classic also raised money for the USO, which supports military personnel and their families, and the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, which provides scholarship to military children. Below is the announcement about the cancellation from the event website.
