Think of it as ladies’ night.
When female golfers get off work, they will have more leagues they can play in — a quick way to get in nine holes before the sun goes down. The Tampa Bay Chapter of the Executive Women’s Golf Association will start five After Work 9 Hole leagues at local courses offering competitive play and a chance to meet new people. Westchase Golf Club and Bloomingdale Golf Club, both in Tampa, will have a Monday league, Crescent Oaks Country Club in Tarpon Springs will have a Tuesday league, and TPC of Tampa Bay Golf Course in Lutz and Belleview Biltmore in Clearwater will have a Thursday league. “We’re real big on making sure that women enjoy themselves,” Genevieve Schroeder, 2009 EWGA league chairwoman, said. “We want players who know the etiquette of the game. Any level of play is welcome, but we don’t want play being held up, that way every woman can enjoy themselves.” Schroeder, who will play in the league at TPC, said all ages are welcome. The leagues will start sometime after March 8, that is, after daylight saving time since the leagues play in the evenings.
The association still has to have an organizational meeting to discuss a few more of the basics of the chapter, but Schroeder says that each league will determine how long its session will last. Though Schroeder hopes that the leagues will have three eight-week long sessions, she realizes that each course and league will “develop its own personality” determined “on the golfers who show up at each course.”
