The work of a 21-year-old photography student highlighting homophobia in south Wales is on show in Swansea.
The collection by Laura Condon has been put together with HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust to mark International Day Against Homophobia. The photographs taken around the city are being displayed at the InfoNation Centre on the Kingsway for a week. The student said: “I wanted to represent how coming out can cause feelings of shyness and isolation.” She said she wanted to focus on the difficulties faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) people in coming out to their family and friends. “I hope [it] will give visitors an insight into some of the problems caused by homophobia,” she added. Gavin Mooney of the trust said: “Laura is a promising local artist, and we’re delighted to be working with her to raise awareness of these issues.”
As part of the exhibition there will also be information available in Welsh and English explaining how homophobia can be tackled in schools, colleges and youth groups.
