August 20, 2009 Once again, the Farmington/Farmington Hills community has stepped up to serve.
Farmington’s Hunger Hero Food Drive, a monthlong food drive to help the Gleaners Community Food Bank supply low-income children with healthy food throughout the summer months, collected 2,200 pounds of food from the Farmington/Farmington Hills community. This special effort was focused on providing food for children and their families who do not have access to free or reduced price lunches during the summer months. The Farmington DDA, The Suburban Collection, and Gleaners worked together, along with community volunteers on the 30-day collection. We commend the Farmington/Farmington Hills community for answering this call. According to Gleaners, more than 250,000 children across Southeastern Michigan are without the free or reduced-fee school lunches in the summer.
