Fats Domino makes rare appearance at New Orleans charity concert

The 81-year-old musician, whose hits included Blueberry Hill and Ain’t That a Shame, smiled and waved at the 3,000-strong crowd at Saturday’s Domino Effect
concert. Richard, wearing a white, glittering suite, revved up the crowd with his breakout hit Tutti Frutti and other hit singles such as Lucille. He was also handed a plaque inducting him into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. Both Richard and King toured in the early days with Domino. “It’s good to see you, my friend,” said King. “Did you bring me some gumbo” Other performers included Wyclef Jean, Keb Mo, Junior Brown and comedian Tracey Morgan. A portion of the proceeds from the concert goes to Operation Kids, a program run by football player Drew Brees’s foundation.
“These guys are legends,” said Brees. “They’re the fathers of blues and rock ‘n’ roll.”
