This year, the Village Market’s fundraising efforts were organized to raise money for the Michigan Special Olympic area that represents the Fife
Lake community.
“I think it went really well for our first time doing it. We did a lot more than I thought, given the weather,” said Dan Ellis, co-owner of Fife Lake Village Market.
The fundraiser was held in front of the store. It offered hot dogs, chips and drinks to those who braved the wind and rain. According to Ellis, the event raised nearly $500.
Ellis said his store throws four events every year to bring the community together and give back to the local area in appreciation for their business.
The decision, though, to host a fundraiser for the Special Olympics came from another manager at the store.
“We had a managers’ meeting to discuss what we could do. Our meat manager suggested the Special Olympics because his son participates in it,” Ellis said.
Rita Cummer is another manager at the Village Market and, according to Ellis, was very important in planning and organizing the fundraising event.
