Five Questions With Patrick Mahoney Aka 39Wolfie39 2009: Patrick Mahoney

Five questions with Patrick Mahoney aka 39Wolfie39

Patrick Mahoney is now the most frequent face under Wolfie &mdash Madison Area Technical College’s mascot.
The 20-year-old liberal arts major graduated in 2007 from Edgewood High School, where he was an actor. He started playing Wolfie when he began at MATC in September 2007. He also shares an unusual trait in common with the last Wolfie in that both are sons of top area police officers. Elliot Wray, the Wolfie known for his dance moves, is Madison Police Chief Noble Wray’s son, while Mahoney’s dad is Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney. As Wolfie, he appears at sporting events, college and charity events. Q: What made you try out to be your school’s mascot A: At Edgewood I managed POMs (dance squad) and all the girls on the team said I should be the mascot, but we didn’t have one. I always wanted to be Bucky and I asked about trying out for Bucky, but I was told I couldn’t because I’m not a UW student. So at MATC, they gave me a game &mdash I think it was volleyball &mdash and it went well, so I kept doing it. Q: What’s it like wearing the costume A: It’s not too bad if I’m outside because the wind comes through. But for indoor events like basketball games, I have to take a lot of breaks because it does get hot.
Q: Any odd things ever happen when you’re Wolfie
