FOCUS kids get golf tips from Haas

May 1, 2009 Several aspiring young golfers got expert golf tips Tuesday from The Principal Charity Classic defending champion, Jay Haas.
Haas worked at the Waveland Golf Course, 4908 University Ave.,with members of the FOCUS program – Family Outpatient Center of Unified Services – which is a collaboration between Broadlawns Medical Center and Des Moines Public Schools. FOCUS provides education services and recreational therapy to at-risk kids and is financed in part through the Charity Classic. “Now more than ever, support from The Principal Charity Classic is crucial to improving the lives of these and thousands of other children in central Iowa,” Haas said. As a last option prior to institutionalization for many of its participants, FOCUS gives at-risk students intensive education services and clinical treatment. The program serves approximately 36 Des Moines schools’ students each year in grades three through eight. The Principal Charity Classic brings the PGA Champions Tour pro golf tournament to Des Moines. The tournament will be played at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines on May 26-31.
