“Gerry” and Marguerite Lenfest received the Philadelphia Award May 13 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The award, presented by Dr. Donald Parks, chairman of the Philadelphia Award, was given in recognition of the Lenfests’ generous support of many of the city’s civic and cultural institutions, including the Art Museum, the Curtis Institute, and the Kimmel Center. The award includes a $25,000 prize, which the Lenfests will donate to an undisclosed charity. A reception for 400 followed the ceremony. In celebration of the start of the World Affairs Council’s 60th anniversary year, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spoke to more than 600 council members and their guests May 4 at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue. Rice’s remarks covered national security and global affairs. The event, cochaired by Jayne and Walter Garrison and Ravi Saligram, included a Leadership Roundtable dinner for 30 in honor of Rice.
The Fleisher Art Memorial held its annual Founder’s Award dinner May 9 at Fleisher. The evening honored filmmaker Louis Massiah of the Scribe Video Center, artist Pepón Osorio of Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, and artist Lily Yeh of Barefoot Artists Inc. The evening for 175 raised $50,000 for Fleisher’s art-education programs, which annually serve more than 17,000 adults and children through exhibitions, classes, and artist residencies at local public schools.
