Getting Bigger And Better Every Year 2009: Record 1

Getting bigger and better every year

A record 1,300 runners pounded the streets of Beverley in the annual 10k race.
They set off from Beverley Minster before following a challenging route across the Westwood and heading to the finish in Toll Gavel to Wednesday Market, in the town centre. With all the starting places snapped up before March, yesterday’s field was the biggest in the event’s 17-year history. Peter Rolinson, from the Beverley Athletic Club, said: “The race is getting bigger and better every year and is regarded as one of the best in the country. “The historic buildings and the Westwood provide the perfect backdrop to the race. “The course is also excellent and for the serious runners it is great. Residents lined the streets of the town to cheer on the runners.
Mrs King said: “Our son Christopher has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and Heidi found out she was not a match for his bone marrow transplant.
