WOMEN of all ages are being urged to get on their marks, get set and go .
. to sign up for the Race for Life. They are being called on to do their bit by throwing on their trainers for the charity race being held on Swansea’s Museum Green on Sunday, July 19. Cancer survivor Linda Poole, aged 54, of Grovesend, who has taken part in previous races, has teamed up with the charity to encourage others to take part. “I want to invite women in Swansea to do something amazing by registering for Race for Life and asking their friends, sisters, mothers, daughters and colleagues to take part as well.” The mum-of-two was first diagnosed with breast cancer in April 1997, leading her to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Then, three years later, she took up a post of a medical secretary to a consultant breast surgeon. Organisers said they were hoping to get around 4,500 women to take part in the summer event.
Every day, 45 people are diagnosed with cancer in Wales. But since the launch of the Race for Life series 16 years ago, the overall death rate for cancer has dropped by 15 per cent.
