On Saturday May 2, Greening Princeton, a student-run environmental group at Princeton University, hosted its 12th annual charity 5K walk/run raising more than $665
for the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association. Now celebrating its 60th Anniversary, the protects clean water and the environment across five counties and 26 towns in central New Jersey through conservation, advocacy, science and education. “This year instead of supporting a global cause we wanted to help an environmental organization doing work right here in central New Jersey,” said Carol Dreilbelbis of . “The Watershed Association is an amazing organization. The first environmental group in our area, the work they do is critical to protecting the health and quality of our drinking water sources as well as natural habitats.” On Saturday, a total of 57 runners and walkers took part in the Greening Princeton & Beyond: Community 5K for the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association. The race began at the corner of University Place and Alexander Street in Princeton and continued along the Delaware & Raritan Canal, one of the many water bodies protected by the Watershed Association. Prizes were awarded to the top three male and female finishers as well as the youngest runner. First place: Joe Roy-Mayhew (13:42) and Shannon M. Brink (17:03). Second place: Charles Boatwright (14:29) and Amy Gobel (18:52). Third Place: Dennis Contois (14:44) and Lauren Whatley (19:11). Youngest runner: Ethan Colby-Witaneck.
