Helping Babies One Angel At The Time 2009: Peggykinggaflnewscom Vienna

Helping babies one angel at the time

peggy.kinggaflnews.com VIENNA — Having been a preemie herself, Sonja Ellenburg has a special place in her heart for March of Dimes.
Earlier this month, she conceived an idea for raising money for her favorite charity, and now she is challenging everyone else in the area either to join her or come up with their own fundraising projects. Using two butterfly gem clips, a bead and ribbon in a variety of colors, Sonja, with help from her mother and 12-year-old brother, has made between 700 and 800 angel necklaces. She is selling them at $1 each with all the proceeds going to the March of Dimes. “I’ve already sold about 140 and they are becoming a trend for young girls,” the high school senior said. “At first, I was using only black and white ribbon, but girls began telling me they would like different colors so I started adding more variety.”
Sonja set up a table in front of Radio Shack in the Wal-Mart parking lot this past Saturday. She will be selling her necklaces at similar events throughout the year as she works toward her goal of earning $1,000 for March of Dimes.
