Midlands women, several hundred strong, turned out at the Capital City Club in Columbia Wednesday evening for the 2009 Power of the Purse, the signature event of Women in Philanthropy. “You don’t leave home without your purse, even if there is nothing in it. But tonight we’re hoping they’ll have something in them,” said Carolyn Sawyer of the Tom Sawyer Company, who hosted the event. Proceeds will go to the Women in Philanthropy general fund, which supports a variety of charitable efforts targeted to women’s and children’s services.
