The 47th annual Marshall Lions Club Charity Horse Show got off to a smooth start Friday evening.
Events continue 3 p.m. today at Marshall City Arena, 3310 Poplar St. “So far everything’s going all right,” said Ben Bane, this year’s show chairman. Bane noted all 120 stalls at the arena had been rented for the event, which is the club’s largest fund-raiser. “I know there are some other events going on in town tonight,” Bane said Friday, “so I’m hoping the crowd (of spectators) will be larger tomorrow. “But all that aside, we have had good weather for the show’s opening and we have a good crowd here.” Admission is free and, Bane pointed out, the event offers locals an opportunity to view walking horse and racking horse demonstrations by horse owners from six states.
Those who plan to attend are asked to consider bringing canned goods or making a cash donation to United Churches of Marshall Food Pantry, since the club is currently conducting a drive for that charity.
