For the past three decades, the Lakeshore Soccerfest has been a highlight of the season for local recreational players. And this year’s event was no exception, attracting 120 teams, some from as far away as Quebec City and northern Ontario. “This has always been the largest recreational soccer tournament in Quebec,” said Soccerfest co-ordinator Kelly-Ann Soutter. “And since we’re a national tournament, we always draw teams from Ontario.” While the U-8 and U-9 age divisions are non-competitive “festival” events, the U-10 ranks and above are competitive divisions with 3-game minimums. The host club fared well at the weekend tournament. Lakeshore entered 35 all-star house-league teams and claimed six of 15 divisional titles up for grabs on Sunday.
Winning local entries included the Tasmanian Devils (U-11-F) Vixens (U-21-F) Rottweilers (U-11-M) United (U-12-M) Wolves (U-14-M) and Renegades (U-21-M). The Pointe Claire Red Devils took the U-16-M crown.
