Denton said he and Neal McDonough, who played his evil nemesis David Williams this season, may have been at odds on screen but they
bonded over baseball when the cameras were off. “He bleeds Red Sox red,” laughed Denton. “You can’t have a conversation with Neal without talking about the Red Sox, so he and I hit it off immediately.” So Denton was delighted when the writers decided to pack Neal’s character off to the nuthouse instead of killing him off. “His fate was up in the air all year long,” said the actor. “They were going to kill him, then lock him up (in jail), then they put him away. I’m glad they put him away. We kill too many people on the show. We have a running death toll of about 38 people over five seasons.” As for the big wedding cliffhanger, Denton has no clue about which bride was behind the veil. “It’s funny because everyone’s assuming something different,” said the TV groom. “Mike’s reaction when the veil went up had a little bit of uncertainty and people are saying, ‘If it were Susan (whom he married previously), he wouldn’t have had that, so it must be Katherine.’ ” But what about Mike’s planting a big kiss on Susan after the car crash
“It was human and natural,” he said. “It made sense that that he’d grab and kiss her. A little melodramatic, but we wanted to put that question in people’s minds.”
