Hundreds Take Part In Sunshine Fund Triathlon 2009: Involved Forget

Hundreds take part in Sunshine Fund triathlon

Get involved FORGET lazing around on a Sunday morning &ndash these athletes showed true grit for a Tyneside triathlon.
Nearly 200 fitness enthusiasts pulled on their trainers to pound the street for the Chronicle’s charity, the Sunshine Fund. In the ultimate test of endurance they took a dip in the pool for a four-mile swim, before saddling up to cycle 20km. And to round off proceedings they hit the roads for a 5km run, transforming Ponteland, Northumberland, into a haven for nimble athletes and agile runners. Among those taking part was Vincent Woods, managing director of Benchmark Communications, who battled back from injury to take part in the event and raised &pound200 for charity. The 45-year-old, from Spittal Tongues, Newcastle, said: “This is my first triathlon for a while because I damaged my knee playing rugby.
“I’ve had a month to train and the event has been great. I finished the course in one of my fastest times. It’s a lovely race, the course is very beautiful.
