AFTER rowing on a machine for 24 hours, Murray man John Simpson helped raise over £400 for charity.
The 49-year-old rowed 234,039 metres on a machine in his living room to raise the cash. And, in the process, he even beat the current world record for indoor rowing &ndash 176,480 metres &ndash at his age group. John was raising cash for Ataxia UK which treats people with Ataxia a disease of the nervous system for which there is currently no cure. And a drained and exhausted John told the News this week of his delight at completing the marathon row and raising such an amount for the charity in the process thanks to the tremendous support he received. He said: “Obviously I’m very tired after the event and I’ve got a few sore spots on my body. “The effort was the equivalent of running five-and-a-half marathons so that is something I’m proud of being able to achieve.
“It was very tough but it was all worth it in the end as we raised over £400 which is fantastic .
