Matt Baker • News-Leader • August 15, 2009 Springfield native David Jenkins has played Highland Springs Country Club enough to feel comfortable with the
course. He’ll get two more days of practice this weekend. The former Glendale Falcon and Missouri State Bear made the cut at the Price Cutter Charity Championship, finishing 6 under through the first two rounds. It’s the first time in four tries he’s made the cut in his hometown event. Seventy players made the cut, set at 5 under. “I grew up watching this tournament,” Jenkins said after his 2-under second round. “Coming out here as a kid, I saw all the pros. It’s pretty neat being out here, being the guy hitting the shots instead of watching.”
Jenkins snuck into the tournament with a strong, 5-under finish in the qualifier earlier this week. He survived a one-hole playoff with a par to earn one of the 14 available spots.
