The Starpath Memory Walk, which follows the Tarka Trail from Barnstaple town square to the charity’s base, Little Bridge House, Fremington, is hoping to
raise £30,000 for CHSW — the amount needed to fund a specialist nurse for one year. Head of fundraising at Little Bridge House, Emma Puckney, said: “It’s the first time we have organised an event like this. “We came up with the idea of the Starpath Memory Walk as we wanted to create an event where people could come together and remember a loved one in a special way. “Stars are especially poignant for us at Little Bridge House as a star is hung on each door when a child has sadly passed away. These were the inspiration for the memory walks.” The hospice, which has worked in the South West for 13 years, aims to create special memories and an ongoing support network for families affected by life-limited children. Mrs Puckney said: “We chose to have walking events as you do not need to really train to take part — as long as you have a reasonable level of fitness, anyone can get involved. “We have three memory walks taking place across the South West so that no matter where people live they will be able to take part and show their support.”
The event, which takes place on September 26 at 6pm, will begin with a memory ceremony for all participants and finish with a visit to Narnia, the sensory garden at the hospice.
