Kids Cash In On Pipe Marathon 2009: Members Dumfries

Kids cash in on pipe marathon

MEMBERS of Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary Pipe Band were “overwhelmed” by the support they received during their recent ‘marathon’ last Saturday.
The Pipe Band played at 13 locations around the region in aid of the Westsound Cash for Kids charity. Starting at 8am outside Langholm Police Station, the band finished at 8pm in Stranraer, with stops along the way at Gretna, Annan, Lockerbie, Moffat, Sanquhar, Thornhill, Dumfries, Dalbeattie, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright and Newton Stewart. Volunteers from the charity accompanied the band with collecting buckets for the worthwhile cause. Cash for Kids local representative, Tommy Jardine from Westsound Radio, said: “It’s fantastic that the Police Pipe Band undertook such a challenging schedule. Callum Watson, the band’s Pipe Major said: “The money is still being counted so we don’t yet know how much has been raised from the event, but it was a great success and the reaction we had from members of the public was magnificent. “Everywhere we went there were people waiting for us and they all appear to have been very generous. We are overwhelmed.
“It was hard going, and we were all exhausted by the time we finished in Stranraer at 8pm.
