With almost 1,700 individually-knit or crocheted squares that were joined together to make 35 blankets, the event was more than Shelley Schuett could have
imagined. “I was extremely pleased with the response,†Schuett said. Schuett recently formed a Milton chapter of Blankets for Canada, a charity organization that puts knitting and crocheting to good use. As a group kick-start, Carolyn Anstey of Main St. Yarns held her annual Knitting for Charity day for the group May 2 at the Carriage Square Plaza store. Knitting enthusiasts young and old turned out to make the blocks at the store or to drop off squares they’d made at home. The blankets completed for the event are currently on display at the store, and will be donated to various shelters and addiction programs including Halton Women’s Place, Halton Recovery House and Hope Place Centres, as well as to a local program for teen moms, Schuett said. They’ll join the other blankets already donated by Milton’s Blankets for Canada group.
“I’m thrilled with the community support I have had and would like the community to see what a great job they have put forth,†Schuett said.
