This year’s event takes place at 7 p. m. at Braemar House, 36 Baxter St. Organizers are encouraging the entire community to come out, join the fun and compete for prizes. “It’s not so much a corporate event as it is corporations and the community as a whole,” said literacy council representative Lori Bruner. Two judges are in place – Brantford Mayor Mike Hancock and Anne Buchanan, former chamber of commerce executive vice president -and organizers are looking for a third. The emcee will be Mark MacKenzie of Bunnell Hitchon Insurance Brokers, while the official pronouncer is retired high school English teacher Penny MacKenzie. Entry fee is $180 for a team of three.
Bruner said that response to the spelling has been generally improving, although he 2008 competition was cancelled due to low interest.
