BETHANY BEACH — Giving back to the community and enriching the lives of others are the main goals of the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation.
But the group can’t do it alone. Through events like the Caribbean Christmas — an annual holiday celebration — the organization attempts to raise money with the intention of giving it back to those in need. The next fundraising event will be the QRCF Golf Classic, scheduled to be held Thursday, June 4, and QRCF members are already trying to get the word out. “In these tough economic times, it’s more important than ever that we do a great job,” said Brent Poffenberger, a QRCF board member. “There’s more of a need now.” The organization typically raises more than $30,000 per event, he said, with nearly every cent going straight back to the community. This year, proceeds from the golf tournament will be donated to the Lower Sussex Boy Scouts of America and the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. A small portion of the money will be retained by the QRCF to fund annual scholarships and grants. “This is a great event that raises money for a great cause,” he said. “There are lots of activities (for golfers) on the course and we give away a lot of great stuff.”
According to Poffenberger, those who play in the event will receive a Callaway golf shirt, a divot repair tool, and many other miscellaneous items. The cost of the tournament also includes lunch, snacks, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
