Local golf Esteros Olive wins State MidSenior title

Estero’s Phil Olive shot a 71 to win the Florida State Mid-Senior Championship on Sunday at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor.
Olive had a pair of 70s in the first two rounds, and finished with a 211 total, three strokes ahead of University of Florida men’s golf coach Buddy Alexander. Thomas Midtgaard of Fort Myers finished at 224, and Lee Booker of Naples was at 225. Jacques Legere of Fort Myers shot a 227. Jim Marcelak (234) and Dave Marshman (235) of Fort Myers also made the 36-hole cut and finished their final rounds. σ2 σ2 σ2 Bonita Springs’ Jan Phillips is tied for the lead after the second round of the Florida Women’s State Golf Association’s Senior Championship at Plantation Bay in Ormond Beach on Tuesday. Phillips had an 80 for a 36-hole total of 157.
Naples’ Mary Jane Hiestand, a Hideout Golf Club member, is tied for third at 158 after her second straight 79.
