LOCAL GOLF Lytle Allen makes doubleeagle at Tallapoosa Lakes

Compiled by Mike Tankersley • May 12, 2009 Montgomery’s Lytle Allen won’t soon forget his day on the golf course last Wednesday.
Playing with Willie Lloyd, Dixie Robinson and Dan Harris at Tallapoosa Lakes (east course), Allen had one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments that golfers cherish for the rest of their lives. Allen made a double-eagle on the par-5, 465-yard No. 16. He hit his driver off the white tees, then holed a 5-wood shot from the fairway for the albatross. DOGFIGHTS The women’s dogfight at Arrowhead last Thursday was rained out. Play moves to Bonnie Crest this Thursday. The men also battled the elements last week. The dogfight was scheduled for Thursday at Cottonwood, but heavy rains pushed it back a day to Friday. When play finally started, there were 28 brave souls ready to play. First place at plus 14 went to the team of Tom Watson, Ricky Brooks, Johnny Hassett and Hanly Funderburk. In second, at plus-8, was the foursome of Renford Johnston, Ed Grant, Larry Cornwell and Richard Whaley. This week’s dogfight was scheduled for Thursday at Emerald Mountain, but the heavy rains last week damaged several of the greens, so play instead will move to Tallapoosa Lakes..
