THE last Cornish Pirates Masterclass of the summer was taking place at Truro this week, where 50 youngsters received coaching and guidance from the
club’s community coaches and players. Children attending the Camborne venue also had two special treats. Firstly, community coach Leon Pohe taught the children New Zealand’s famous war dance, the ‘haka’, and then on the last day of their coaching they were given a guided tour around the Rec, viewing the changing rooms and also experiencing the thrill of running out of the tunnel and onto the pitch. χ9 Cornish Pirates players Matt Evans, Carl Rimmer, Laurie McGlone and Nick Jackson attended a Charity Golf Day at Bowood Park on Saturday. They helped to raise the profile of the event and monies for the BBC Radio Cornwall Charity Appeal and for the benefit of Penair School pupils who are planning a tour to South Africa. Perranporth 5, Pirates Amateurs RFC 7 PLAYING their perceived first ever game last Saturday as the Pirates Amateurs RFC, a pre-season friendly match away to Perranporth was won 7-5. The game was as close as the result indicates, a hard and sporting contest when the visiting forwards just about had the edge. Hooker Andrew Gwennap scored the try for the Pirates, with fly-half Andrew Snell’s conversion proving decisive.
PLAYERS from the Penzance & Newlyn RFC Girls squads have been travelling to Newquay this week to take part in a county-wide development coaching programme.
