Men In Dresses 2009: Ryan Loew

Men in dresses

Ryan Loew • rloewlsj.com • February 15, 2009 • From Lansing State Journal Tristan Dupuis isn’t humble about how he looks in a red
dress. And the 47-year-old Alto resident isn’t shy about showing the world either. Dupuis was one of about 30 runners who braved the cold and invited curious stares as they participated in the Red Dress Run, an informal annual event that’s equal parts running and drinking. “You know, running, drinking and wearing a red dress – it doesn’t get any more fun than that,” Dupuis said. “Plus I look pretty sweet in a dress.” The event started Saturday afternoon at Tripper’s sports bar in the Frandor Shopping Center, and area runners were planning to head west along Michigan Avenue, making stops at a handful of bars along the way, said organizer Scott Lynn. “It’s fun to see people’s reactions, really,” said 26-year-old runner David Miller, who wore a long red dress and Asics running shoes and sipped on a Bloody Mary as the event got under way. “We try to be a little wild with it, slow traffic down a little bit.” This is at least the third time the run has been held in the Lansing area. Lynn said similar runs are held around the world – often in places warmer than Michigan.
In the past, the event has been held to benefit local charities. But this year, Lynn said, organizing got under way too late and no money was collected.
