Mike Weir hits the links for charity in Halifax

Canada’s top men’s golfer is teeing off in the region today.
Mike Weir will play nine holes of golf at both New Ashburn and the Glen Arbour Golf Course as part of his Miracle Golf Drive for Kids to benefit the IWK Health Centre in Halifax. Weir will play the back nine of New Ashburn starting at about 8 a.m. then play holes 10 through 18 beginning around 1 p.m. at Glen Arbour. Weir will switch teams after every three holes. In total, there are 360 golfers participating. The two-day event kicked off last night with Weir scheduled to arrive into town late for a private function. In 2007, the Mike Weir Foundation began partnering with Children’s Miracle Network to create his golf drive for kids. This marks the first year the event has been held in Atlantic Canada. The wheels on a new express bus service travelling back and forth from Upper Tantallon to downtown Halifax start turning today.
A family from Purcells Cove has donated a section of land in their community to the Nova Scotia Nature Trust.
