Miniputt event a fun afternoon for a great cause

Mike Williscraft One of the best examples is our partnership with the Kinsmen Club of Grimsby. In the coming weeks, local residents will be able to partake in one of those great partnerships – the Greater Grimsby Open mini-putt fundraiser in support of West Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Now in its 14th year, the fundraiser has come leaps and bounds over the years. Our first year, eight teams was the goal and, as I recall, we had the eight set, then one backed out for some reason, so we looked to the ever-faithful Grimsby Legion who stepped up with a third team…they had put in a ladies and men’s team but added another men’s foursome to round out the field. From there, I don’t think we ever had less than eight foursomes. After five or six years it seemed as though 14-16 teams seemed to be about the level at which it stayed, which is great for a Sunday afternoon in the winter. Now it has to be capped off at 30 due to the strong interest. You mention the hospital in this area and there is people who will drop what they’re doing and try to be first in line to help. Nobody does that more often than Teddy Jaskula and his sister Sandy at Teddy’s Food, Fun and Spirits.
Since the start of this event, those guys have been part of the event itself and hosted the wrap-up banquet with 100 per cent of the food and trimmings donated to the event.
