Moustache Society gives back in style

Al Lassen For the Enquirer Members of the Battle Creek Metropolitan Area Moustache Society host Hairy-oke and Hair Guitar at Gary Fields to raise
money for Leila Arboretum. Their group is called the Joint Chief of Stache. Left to Right: Ben Duval, Ben Crane, Kelly Eis, John Brandymore, Tony Dewey, Jeremy Andrews, Dan Barry, Matt Angelo, and Tom Westphall. When the snow gods bless the rolling hills of Leila Arboretum with frozen, white manna, unequivocally, masses will assemble to partake in the revered ritual of plunging face first through the fields on speeding saucers, screaming praises of thanks for the winter splendor. If some of those parka-clad devotees look slightly larger and harrier than usual, it can only mean that the sacred season of Festivus is upon us. Educated in the ways of the Old School, the Chiefs of Stache are once again giving the community a lesson about having fun with philanthropy through FebruHairy Festivus, a day of traditional arctic benefitting the Leila Arboretum Society. The Battle Creek Metropolitan Area Moustache Society has planned old-fashioned activities such as a homemade, cardboard sled race, an all-ages snowball fight, a snow sculpture competition, disc golf putting, an ugly sweater contest and a three-legged race. “I would never pray for snow in my life, but I am just for this,” said BC MAM founding member Jeremy Andrews.
Thanks to a grant by the Battle Creek Community Foundation, free hot dogs, cocoa and refreshments will be served, but guests can also participate, or partake, in a chili cook-off in which participants will “put their money where their mouth is” by voting for their favorite recipes with money.
