MSU students fill buses for charity

Staff and wire reports • August 31, 2009 • From Lansing State Journal EAST LANSING — Michigan State University officials are asking the school’s
7,500 incoming freshmen to start their college careers with a charity event. The Fill-the-Bus event runs today and Tuesday. A bus will be on site until 4 p.m. at the Communications Arts and Sciences building, according to the university schedule. Buses will be at several other locations on campus Tuesday. Students are being asked to bring school supplies or nonperishable items The items will go to 13 campus and community groups, including the MSU Family Resource Center, Lansing School District, Greater Lansing Food Bank and Refugee Development Center. Goodrich Shop-Rite, Meijer Inc. and Kroger Co. stores are donating bags. Project organizer Karen McKnight Casey said the event is designed to show service and civic responsibility are core values at MSU.
