The Institute of Neuro Innovation (I.N.I.) is a non-profit research organization whose mission is to enhance neurological function through research, innovation and neuroscience education in order to optimize brain performance and recovery from degeneration and injury.
This year’s event, “Music of the Mind,” features a keynote speech by Adam Gazzaley, M.D., Ph.D.; exciting research shared by Christopher Duma, M.D. FACS, renowned brain surgeon/Music-Heals founder; and a video tribute to the late Dr. Oliver Sacks, narrated by KCRW DJ Tom Schnabel, that will explain the powerful effects that music has on our thoughts, emotions, and improving overall quality of life. “Music of the Mind” will be an intimate and artistic evening including a cocktail reception, silent auction, presentations by members of the arts and neuroscience communities, and live entertainment performances by The Electric Angels, DJ Nolan, and tango dancers from Dancify.
I.N.I.was founded by Dr. Amir Vokshoor, a neurological spine surgeon at DISC, Sports and Spine Center. I.N.I. divides its research between cognitive and functional studies and is involved in multi-center national clinical trails. This year, I.N.I. began working with the NFL Retired Players Association to further its research on long-term effects of repeated concussions. I.N.I.has also been active in getting important Alzheimer’s Disease legislation passed to better manage healthcare for the 600,000 Californians living with the disease. I.N.I.’s ambitious goal is to be on the leading edge in the fight against neurologic devastation and the quest for neurological health.
Funds raised from I.N.I. ‘s “Music of the Mind” will directly support new methods to improve vital research on brain studies pertaining to cognition such as Alzheimer’s, PTSD, Chronic Pain, and the effects of concussions from sports related injuries.
