Nationwide Tour continues Tickets Fore Charity BRIDGEPORT — Nationwide Tour Players Cup officials announced today that the tournament will continue its support of local
charities in West Virginia through the Tickets Fore Charity program. In 2008, Tickets Fore Charity yielded $78,125 to charities statewide. Players Cup officials will host a reception at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18 for charitable organizations interested in participating in the program. The reception will be held at the Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport. Tickets Fore Charity is aimed at creating funding for charities while promoting the game of golf. The program allows West Virginia non-profit organizations to sell Players Cup tournament tickets and retain 100 percent of the proceeds.Additionally, the Players Cup will provide a bonus pool of $25,000, to be distributed to the participating charities based on each charity’s total sales. Players Cup executive tournament director, Tim McNeely said, “We were extremely pleased and pleasantly surprised with the success of the program in 2008. We also recognize the increasing need to provide support to our state’s charitable organizations. They are among the many that have been so drastically affected by the current economic downturn. “We are proud of the progress we’ve made with the program and are incredibly optimistic that Tickets Fore Charity will have a tremendous influence on West Virginia charities for years to come.”The Nationwide Tour Players Cup, which will be held June 22-28 at the Pete Dye Golf Club, is the tour’s signature in-season event. The 2008 Players Cup was the first Nationwide Tour event to offer a $1 million purse. This year’s tournament will be one of only three $1 million events on the tour in 2009.Charitable contributions have been a significant part of the PGA Tour since 1938. Including the Champions and Nationwide tours, PGA Tour events annually benefit more than 2,000 charities and countless individuals worldwide. The three tours have raised more than $1.3 billion for charities. To get your charity involved, or to get more information on the Tickets Fore Charity program, contact Chase McClain at (304) 669-6030 or visit www.playerscup.net.
