The charity behind the event is the Male Cancer Awareness Campaign, which has invented Near Naked Man as a mascot to tackle the issue of men’s embarrassment about their bodies and to promote early detection of the symptoms of prostate cancer. The Near Naked Men will set off from quayside Newcastle at 9am on Monday. They will be making stops in Carlisle, Dumfries, Newton Stewart, Stranraer, Belfast, Cookstown, Bally Shannon, Sligo, Castle Bar and Galway, and throughout the journy they will be clearly identifiable by their specially designed, eye catching race suits.
Patrick Cox, the charity’s founder, said: “The suits are amazing beautifully designed and a bit silly in places – just like men’s bodies.”
