Fundraisers need to plug a £35,000 gap in finances before a major new women’s refuge opens in Lincoln.
A shelter opening in the summer will replace the existing, much smaller refuge in a move to offer far greater protection to victims of domestic violence. Bosses are scrambling to raise more cash because the site is £35,000 short of funds to refurbish the site. The money would pay for beds, sofas and other items of furniture. Lincoln Women’s Aid is urging people to fork out cash before the refuge opens up, possibly at the end of July. Staff have already planned a walk up Ben Nevis and a charity disco event. Now they need members of the public to dip into their pockets and support the venture.
And a two-week fundraiser between June 19 and July 3 will perhaps be the final window of opportunity to get the facility furnished.
