Gene Chizik and Anthony Grant only played a little putt-putt at the Regions Charity Classic on Thursday because it was the safest thing to
do. Chizik, Auburn’s new football coach, and Grant, Alabama’s new basketball coach, squared off in the celebrity 18-hole putting competition because golf is really not their game. When asked if he ever plays golf, Grant responded with a quick and certain “no.” His putting looked like it in the beginning at the Ross Bridge Resort, but he warmed up to the sport. But he said he never really has had time to devote to golf. “Hopefully,” he said, “my game got a lot better. I learned a lot today.” But aren’t coaches supposed to network through golf Not these guys. “I never really found time,” Chizik said. “I’ve got three children and a family, and I don’t have a lot of time for it. But these events are fun.”
Chizik and the Auburn two-man team won the 18-hole event by two shots on the practice putting green.
