Former world No.1 Greg Norman has advised Brendan Jones to try and block out the “hoopla” over his clash with returning superstar Tiger Woods
at this week’s Accenture Match Play Championship. Jones, who hasn’t swung a club since the Australian Open last December, made the World Golf Championship event in 64th and last place. That left him facing Woods, who hasn’t played since knee surgery following his US Open triumph in June last year. Bookmakers had Woods at $1.25 to make a winning return but Norman said Jones could cause a massive upset if he avoided the circus that would accompany the return of the Tiger. “Play your own game,” said Norman, when asked what advice he would give $3.80 outsider Jones on the eve of his biggest moment in golf. “Don’t get swept up in the hoopla of ‘oh you’re playing Tiger Woods, he hasn’t played in seven months … what do you think you’re going to do’ “(He should think) you know what, I’m going to go out there and play the best I can possibly play. I’m going to play my own game.
“I wouldn’t even watch Tiger Woods if I were him.
