NZ PGA Championship

NZ PGA Championship Clearwater Golf Course Clearwater Avenue Harewod Christchurch

Event started 14 February 2008.
Michael Campbell will play in his first HSBC New Zealand PGA Championship when he tees
off in the event on 14 February 2008 at Christchurch’s Clearwater golf course.
The HSBC-sponsored event was only reinstated in 2004 after a gap of 15 years and Campbell wants to make his event debut a winning one.
“I’m delighted to be able to play in this event for the first time. It is one of the two great events on the New Zealand calendar and while I have been able to play in the New Zealand Open every year other commitments have stopped me coming to Clearwater.”
“In fact, I have never played at Clearwater. The last time I played in Christchurch was back in my amateur days, so I am looking forward to the event and to being in Christchurch once again.” he said.
Campbell, the 2005 United States Open Champion, has a fond association with HSBC-sponsored events having won the 2005 HSBC World Matchplay title and tying for 3rd at the 2006 HSBC Champions in Shanghai.
“HSBC’s global commitment to golf is well supported by our work with charities in New Zealand and across the world who offer young people skills, leadership and development through the game of golf.”
Last year’s winner of the event, Nicholas Thompson, will play on the PGA Tour in 2008 after securing his playing card at the Nationwide Tour alongside 17 other competitors from the 2007 Championship who have graduated on to the main tour. The winner of the HSBC New Zealand PGA Championship gains automatic entry into the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai.
