Architecture and automobiles merge paths Thursday, May 21, during a walking tour starting at the Castle Museum of Saginaw County History, 500 Federal in
Saginaw. The evening begins at 4:30 with Daria Potts talking about Midland architect Alden B. Dow. One of the homes he designed, and adapted for the car, is on the night’s tour Dow. Potts works at the Alden B. Dow Home and Studio. Starting at 5:30 p.m., Saginaw historian Thomas F. Trombley will begin the walking tour. Festival of Senses returns Dow Gardens, Eastman at West St. Andrews in Midland, hosts it second Festival of the Senses from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday, May 29. The event includes wine and beer tasting, live music and the inauguration of an Art in the Gardens series. The wines come from 13 Michigan wineries, in Suttons Bay, Traverse City, Paw Paw, Jackson and Buchanan. And the beers are from five micro breweries, in Bay City, Detroit, Mount Pleasant and Holland. The Midland band Empty Canvas is providing the music — music with a twist. Lead singer Mike McMath, while singing, will create a painting of the surroundings and then auction it off at the end of the evening. Proceeds go to charity of the high bidder’s choice.
Art in the Gardens will, annually, showcase the work of sculptors. First up this year is creative copper art work by Jim Ardis of Midland.
