Pizarro Ultramarathoner lends name to San Jose race

Mercury News The Silicon Valley Marathon will be run for the 12th time Oct.
25, but it’ll have a new face this year &mdash inspirational runner Dean Karnazes, who’s lending his name to the race. The ultramarathoner &mdash who lives in San Francisco and ran 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days in 2006 &mdash partnered with the Silicon Valley Marathon to encourage Bay Area residents to adopt a healthier lifestyle. And with the assistance of Karnazes’ charity, Karno Kids, there also will be several youth races and a 5K walk/run in downtown San Jose the same day. MUSICAL DREAMS: With Left Coast Live already under way, and the festival’s big event Friday night &mdash more than 100 bands playing 40 venues dotted throughout downtown San Jose &mdash music seems to be on everyone’s minds. “Despite hours of listening to Bruce Springsteen albums and playing my kazoo in a kazoo band, my dreams were dashed,” said San Jose City Councilman Sam Liccardo, who mused that attending the live music extravaganza will be as close he gets to rock stardom. There might even be a kazoo band playing somewhere Friday, too. You can check out the full lineup and schedule at .
The class is limited to 12 students and is being held at the Museums of Los Gatos on Tait Avenue. Potential students can contact Teri Hope at 408-354-1155 or for more information.
