August 25, 2009 Looking for an excuse to play hooky at work in the coming weeks Perhaps your boss will be a little lenient
if the reason is you are playing in a charity golf event, the proceeds from which will benefit the Spina Bifida Resource Network. Then Royce Brook Golf Club, 201 Hamilton Road in Hillsborough, will be the place to on Sept. 10 for the “Longest Day of Golf.” Participants still are being sought for the event, and the cost to play is $150 per player. After that, golfers agree to raise further funds by collecting pledges or flat donations payable to the Spina Bifida Resource Network. Any golfer who raises $500 or more in pledges will golf for free, and the top three fundraisers will receive additional prizes. There also will be other prizes based on golf skills. Spina bifida is the most common permanently disabling birth defect in the United States, according to the Spina Bifida Association, and it occurs when the spine of a baby fails to close during the first months of pregnancy. The effects are different for each person, and there is no known cure. The Spina Bifida Resource Network is based in Flemington but serves all of New Jersey and parts of New York and offers in-home nursing coordination and social services, telegroups and webinars providing support and information, educational conferences for families and professionals, and recreational programs.
