Policemen fight policemen in Battle of the Badges

New Hartford, N.Y.
(WKTV) – Eight Utica Police officers, the Utica Police Department Chaplin, and a Utica Codes Officer squared off against other police officers from various departments in a boxing ring Friday. Cops from Syracuse to Frankfort, raised money in the “Battle of the Badges”, for fallen Utica Police Officer Thomas Lindsey. “It means a lot to us, it is nice we got the departments coming out to represent. It’s nice everyone showed their support.” said Utica Police Officer Anthony Ellis. Even though the event was for charity, once the ringside bell rang, it was on. Things got very intense, very competitive, very quickly inside the ring. “Anytime two guys get into a ring it is going to be competitive, no matter what it is for. We had a good time and no one got hurt.” said Orry Ostander, a New York State Trooper. In all there were 11 bouts, including two priests. Over $7,500 was raised from ticket sales alone. All money goes to the Thomas Lindsey Memorial Fund.
