Poor Economy Cant Deflate Prom 2009: Mericans Battling

Poor economy cant deflate prom

mericans are battling a recession, job losses and foreclosures, but one thing is clear – the prom must go on.
Saturday night, Franklin County’s teens will get decked out for the annual rite of passage. Next weekend, it’s Frankfort High’s turn. They’re also sharing the cost. “It’s a small school,” Scott said. “There’s always 12 kids in the limo.” None of the three local high schools charge seniors for prom tickets, so it falls on the shoulders of students to raise funds for the event. In a down economy, that can be a tough task, but the schools say they managed with few cuts. The prom costs the FCHS senior class about $15,000, Johnson said. “How much they spend on their own is up to them, but we want to do our share to make sure they don’t have to spend an extra $100 to come to prom. You don’t have to go out to eat, you don’t have to rent a limo – you don’t even have to wear a tux.”
The community also donates funds and supplies, Johnson said.
